Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completely
rejected the claim of former US President Donald Trump in which Trump had said
that India had agreed to ceasefire with Pakistan after US intervention. Modi
said that India's foreign and defense policy is completely autonomous and based
on national interests. Prime Minister Modi said in a press conference on
Tuesday, "India is definitely in favour of peace, but does not succumb to
any pressure. Our security policy is not based on the intervention of any third
country, but on the sovereignty of the country and the interests of the people.Donald Trump had recently claimed
in an election rally that during his tenure he had reduced the tension between
India and Pakistan and convinced the Modi government for ceasefire. He also
said that India had retreated on his request.
This statement of Trump became a
topic of discussion on social media and international circles, after which the
Indian government had to give an official response.
The spokesperson of the Ministry
of External Affairs also termed Trump's claim as "baseless and
misleading". The spokesperson said, "Restoration of peace between
India and Pakistan is a bilateral issue. The role of any third party cannot be
accepted in this.
Congress and other opposition
parties have demanded transparency from the Modi government on this issue.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "If Trump's claim is false then the
government should make it completely clear what diplomatic talks took place at
that time."
At the same time, BJP
spokesperson Sambit Patra said that Prime Minister Modi has always given to priority
to the security and dignity of the country, and India's image will not be
tarnished by any false propaganda.
The Modi government has once
again made it clear that India does not change its strategy under any
international pressure. Trump's claim may cause diplomatic sourness between the
two countries, but India has given the message through its stance that it will
not compromise on national interest.
