Unemployment rate reduced from 19% to 3% under Yogi Adityanath government – The complete story of the employment revolution in Uttar Pradesh (2025)

The unemployment situation in Uttar Pradesh has completely changed over the past eight years. While the unemployment rate in the state was over 19% before 2017, it has now dropped to just 3%. This figure is not merely a government claim, but is also confirmed by CMIE, PLFS (NSSO), and other independent surveys. Under the leadership of the Yogi Adityanath government, Uttar Pradesh has now become a "hub of employment and self-employment."
8 Years of the Yogi Government: Historic Decline in Unemployment Rate: The unemployment rate has registered a historic decline during the eight years of the Yogi government's tenure. In 2016-17, the rate ranged between 17.5% and 19.5%, while in 2024-25, it is expected to fall to between 2.9% and 3.5%, as projected by CMIE in October 2025. This decline is evident not only in statistics, but also in the lives of millions of young people. Thus, the Yogi government has taken concrete steps towards shaping the future of youth by increasing employment opportunities.
How did the Yogi government achieve this miracle?: Significant progress has been made in the employment sector during the Yogi government's tenure, including the creation of over 6 million government and semi-government jobs. Recruitment is being conducted through transparent recruitment processes without paper leaks in examinations such as UPSSSC, UPPSC, UPP, and UPTGT/PGT, leading to employment for over 150,000 youth in police recruitment. Furthermore, self-employment opportunities have been provided to over 17.5 million youth, including through programs such as the Mudra Scheme, Startup, and One District One Product (ODOP), which have created over 5 million jobs. Under the UP Startup Policy, over 15,000 startups have been registered, and the government has provided startup funding of over ₹10,000 crore. In the area of skill development, the world's third-largest data center hub has been established on the Greater Noida-Yamuna Expressway, where over 700,000 youth have been trained by Samsung and the Vivekananda Skill Development Scheme. Additionally, over 1,500 new ITI and polytechnic institutes have been opened. Toward women's empowerment, over 300,000 women have become Banking Sakhis through BC Sakhi and women's self-help groups, and over 2.5 million women have received self-employment opportunities under Mission Shakti. In the area of investment and industry, MoUs worth ₹40 lakh crore were signed at the Global Investors Summit 2023, with investments expected to exceed ₹15 lakh crore by 2025. The government has transformed the face of Uttar Pradesh with projects like the Noida International Airport, nine expressways, and 12 new industrial corridors.
New Uttar Pradesh: Where youth create opportunities, not seek opportunities: Today's Uttar Pradesh youth are becoming job creators, not job seekers. The startup ecosystem is flourishing in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, and Varanasi. Digital India and optical fiber have reached every village, boosting online business. ODOP products are now reaching Amazon, Flipkart, and foreign markets.
Under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has proven that with the right policies, transparent governance, and youth-centric schemes, unemployment can be reduced from 19% to 3%. Today, Uttar Pradesh is not only India's largest state, but has also become its fastest-growing employment hub. The youth of the new Uttar Pradesh no longer just dream—they make dreams come true and set an example for the country and the world.
