| In a heartbreaking incident this morning, an Air India international flight,
which was leaving for London from Ahmedabad airport, crashed into a densely
populated residential area nearby due to a technical fault soon after takeoff.
The plane had a total of 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board.According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the plane left the runway, it suddenly lost balance and within seconds it flew low and collided with a building. After the accident, there was a huge explosion and several nearby buildings caught fire. The flames were so terrible that the entire area was engulfed in smoke.
As
soon as the incident was reported, dozens of fire engines, ambulances and
National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams reached the spot. Relief work is
going on rapidly, and with the help of local people, the injured are being
admitted to hospitals. The condition of many people is said to be critical.
The
Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Prime Minister of India have expressed deep
condolences on this tragic incident. The Prime Minister's Office has tweeted,
"The whole country is saddened by this accident. We stand with the
affected families. All necessary relief and rescue operations are
underway."
The
Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered a high-level investigation into the
accident with immediate effect. Initial investigations suspect a technical
fault, but the real cause will be known only after the black box report comes.
There
is an atmosphere of panic in the entire area since the accident. People are
being evacuated safely from the houses that are on fire. Many families have
become homeless. A local woman had tears in her eyes when she said, "The
plane fell in front of our eyes and everything burned to ashes. The screams of
the children are still echoing in my ears."
