Every year during monsoon in
Delhi, the problem of waterlogging becomes a big challenge for the common
citizens. But this time the situation seems to be changing. Taking this problem
seriously, BJP leader Rekha Gupta has given strict instructions to the
officials of the concerned departments in a special meeting today. She made it
clear that waterlogging should not occur anywhere in Delhi and the public
should not have to face inconvenience in any situation.Rekha Gupta told in the meeting
that this time there has been no waterlogging in areas notorious for
waterlogging like Minto Bridge and ITO intersection. The credit for this goes
to the promptness, technical proficiency and efficiency of the officials. This
example proves that if a plan is made in time and all the departments work
together, then the solution to this perennial problem is possible.
It was also decided in the
meeting that all the departments of the Delhi government, such as PWD, MCD,
Water Board, and Traffic Police will have to work in mutual coordination. It
should be ensured that the drainage system is in order, the drains are cleaned
on time and all necessary preparations are completed before the rains.
Rekha Gupta directed the
officials that wherever waterlogging has been observed, its causes should be
immediately identified and its solution should be ensured on priority basis. It
was said to give priority to permanent solutions and not temporary ones. She
said that "the real solution to the problem will be found only when we
reach its root and eliminate the possibility of its recurrence in future."
Rekha Gupta said that "the
people of Delhi should get relief at all costs. Waterlogging not only causes traffic
jams and delays, but also affects the health and safety of the people."
She also made it clear that the negligence of any department will not be
tolerated and accountability will be fixed.
The problem of waterlogging in a
metropolis like Delhi is not new, but this time the hopes have been raised due
to the activeness of the government and the administration. Rekha Gupta's
initiative and strict instructions are an important step in this direction. If
all the departments work together in a planned manner and modern technology is
used properly, then certainly Delhi can be made waterlogging free in the coming
days.
