Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath has shared a heartfelt message on the auspicious occasion of
Mauni Amavasya 2026. During the Magh
Mela 2026, more than 4.52 crore devotees took a holy dip in the sacred Triveni
Sangam at Prayagraj, paying homage to the eternal traditions of Sanatan
culture. This number is significantly higher than the administration's estimate
(approximately 3 crore), reflecting the massive turnout and religious fervor
this year. Yogi Adityanath wrote on his official X (Twitter) handle: "On
the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, today, more than 4.52 crore devotees
took a holy dip in the sacred Sangam at Prayagraj, the land of penance of
Sanatan culture, paying homage to the eternal traditions of Indian culture.Heartfelt congratulations to
all the revered saints, religious leaders, devotees who came for Kalpavas, and
all the pilgrims who earned the merit of bathing in the Triveni Sangam.
Heartfelt gratitude to the
police administration, मेला
management, sanitation workers, volunteer organizations, boatmen, and all the
departments of the state government for the peaceful and successful
organization of this holy bathing festival."
This tweet underscores the
depth of Sanatan Dharma, the power of faith, and the excellent arrangements
made by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Mauni Amavasya is the new moon
day of the Magh month, when bathing, charity, and penance while observing
silence hold special significance. According to religious beliefs, bathing in
the Triveni Sangam (confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati)
on this day washes away sins and leads to salvation. In 2026, Mauni Amavasya
was the biggest bathing festival of the Magh Mela (also known as Mini Kumbh).
Devotees thronged the Sangam banks from the Brahma Muhurta (pre-dawn hours).
Despite the dense fog, millions of people continued to take dips amidst chants
of "Har Har Gange." Key Highlights: -4.52 crore+ devotees (the
administration estimated 3 crore, but the actual number was much higher)
-Security arrangements: AI
cameras, drones, police, PAC, UP ATS, and a large number of personnel deployed
-Special feature: Flower
shower from helicopters (on the instructions of Yogi Adityanath)
-Peaceful event: No major
incidents, everyone received blessings.
Why is the Yogi Adityanath government being praised?: Yogi
Adityanath not only greeted the devotees but also thanked all the departments
and volunteers involved in the entire event. This clearly reflects:
-Modern facilities in fair
management (ghats, sanitation, boats, etc.)
-The promptness of the police
and administration.
-The hard work of sanitation
workers and boatmen.
-The contribution of volunteer
organizations.
All of this together made
Mauni Amavasya 2026 memorable and safe.
Bathing in holy rivers
(especially the Ganges or Sangam) on the day of Mauni Amavasya is considered
extremely meritorious from a religious point of view. According to the
scriptures, bathing on this day destroys sins and frees one from the sins of
many past lives, while also granting merit, which leads to the purification of
the soul and liberation. This bath is especially pleasing to the ancestors,
which removes ancestral defects and brings the blessings of ancestors.
In addition, the combination
of bathing and observing a vow of silence on Mauni Amavasya fulfills desires,
as meditating and practicing spiritual disciplines in silence increases
spiritual energy, causing wishes to be fulfilled quickly. This day provides a
deep connection with the Sanatan tradition, as it is the Amavasya of the Magh
month, which is associated with the tradition of Kumbh Mela and pilgrimage
baths, and provides an opportunity to worship Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Surya
Dev, along with offering oblations to ancestors. Most importantly, observing a
vow of silence and bathing on this day is the best means of self-purification.
Silence purifies speech, calms the restless mind, stills thoughts, and leads to
inner peace and self-reflection, guiding one towards spiritual progress. Thus,
the ritual bath on Mauni Amavasya not only provides external purification but
also makes a person inwardly pure and strong.
